For language learners with little real-world experience, visual media can be a powerful way to introduce topics such as world religions, territorial disputes or environmental issues. However, with traditional visual media, there is still an empathic distance between learners and topics due to the physical screen. This article explores the potential of virtual reality (VR) for deepening understanding and enhancing student engagement by eliminating the screen and placing learners in the middle of real situations through utilizing VR 360 video.
